    About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior HGV Driver to join our Matthew Clark Logistics team.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining driving with responsibility for supporting the day-to-day running of the transport operation. You’ll spend approximately 50% of your time supporting the operation from the depot and 50% out on the road, making deliveries and carrying out drop risk assessments.

You’ll help make sure our drivers, mates and vehicles are ready to leave the depot safely and on time, while stepping in to support deliveries when required. You’ll also be a key point of contact between our delivery crews, Customer Care and Sales teams, helping to resolve issues quickly and keep our customers informed.

It’s a great opportunity for an experienced driver who enjoys being out on the road but is also ready to take on more responsibility within a busy transport operation.

    Key accountabilities

You’ll play an important role in keeping the operation running safely, efficiently and on time. Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Ensuring crews and vehicles are ready to leave the depot on time and in full, with the correct PPE and appropriate training in place.
    • Supporting daily transport planning, including managing absence, arranging agency cover and making changes to vehicles or delivery drops when required.
    • Completing multi-drop deliveries across a range of vehicles and stepping in as a driver or mate when additional support is needed.
    • Carrying out drop risk assessments and making sure drivers complete their daily vehicle and equipment checks.
    • Supporting safe loading, unloading and delivery of stock, while maintaining high standards of Health & Safety.
    • Acting as a key communication point between drivers, mates, Sales and Customer Care, particularly where delivery issues or failures arise.
    • Supporting the wider transport operation, including vehicle maintenance requirements, courier arrangements, return-to-work interviews and covering the Assistant Transport Controller during periods of holiday or sickness.

    About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong driving experience with a practical, organised approach and the confidence to support others.

You’ll ideally have a Class 1 HGV Licence and previous experience of multi-drop deliveries. You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-paced transport environment where plans can change quickly, and you’ll be able to make sensible decisions to keep deliveries moving while maintaining high safety standards.

    You’ll also bring:

    • Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
    • Experience of managing or supporting a team.
    • Good local knowledge and experience within a delivery environment.
    • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • JDE knowledge would be beneficial, although it isn’t essential.

Most importantly, you’ll be a team player who’s willing to get stuck in, support colleagues and go the extra mile to provide a great service to our customers.
