Job Purpose
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for leading maintenance and asset care activities within an assigned production line or process area. The role focuses on ensuring optimal equipment performance, maximising line efficiency, supporting production requirements, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with operations, engineering, and support functions to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Asset Care
- Lead maintenance and asset care activities for the assigned production line or process area.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in optimum operating condition.
- Manage planned and reactive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Support reduction of Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
- Become a super-user of the site's Pragma Engineering System.
- Ensure availability of critical spare parts and equipment in line with the site's asset criticality strategy.
- Record maintenance activities and capture asset performance data to support continuous improvement and maintenance best practices.
Operational Support
- Support the efficient running and operational performance of the assigned production line.
- Act as a key support to the Team Manager to achieve production and performance targets.
- Participate fully as a member of the production team and provide equipment cover where trained and authorised.
- Troubleshoot equipment and line availability issues, escalating appropriately when required.
- Provide technical support to production teams and operators.
- Support Front Line Asset Care programmes and operator development initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead and participate in setup time reduction projects.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Participate in asset performance improvement workshops using tools such as:
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- A3 Problem Solving
- Maintenance optimisation techniques
- Spares optimisation methodologies
- Support the implementation of new equipment and production line improvement projects.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Support the achievement of all Quality, Health & Safety, Hygiene, Environmental and Food Safety standards.
- Drive energy and environmental improvement programmes across the site.
- Manage engineering safety activities on the assigned line.
- Ensure compliance with Permit to Work systems and risk assessment requirements.
- Follow all company policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
Training & Development
- Train, coach and mentor operators and fellow technicians.
- Share technical expertise and promote best practice across teams.
- Support the ongoing development of operator asset care capabilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The role will be measured against:
- Delivery of daily OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) targets.
- Adherence to maintenance schedules, systems and business processes.
- Improvement in asset reliability and performance.
- Timely response to operational issues.
- Successful delivery of engineering and line improvement projects.
- Active participation in operational and performance review meetings.
- Continuous improvement of agreed site performance measures.
- Successful implementation of safety, quality and environmental standards.
Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in maintenance, engineering, manufacturing or production environments.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with automated production equipment.
- Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
- Commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
Desirable
- Experience of CMMS systems such as Pragma.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and reliability improvement activities.
- Relevant engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation or related discipline).
