    Overview

    Responsible for the safe, legal and efficient operation of the company’s vehicle fleet, overseeing daily transport activities, compliance, and logistics optimisation. Ensures all vehicles and drivers meet legal requirements (licences, MOT, tax, insurance, driver hours), while maintaining vehicle standards and safe loading practices. Holds accountability under the Operator’s Licence, managing the transport team, driving performance across cost, service, compliance and people KPIs, and ensuring continuous, effective control of transport operations.

    Key Accountabilities 

    • Take overall responsibility as the nominated Transport Manager, ensuring transport operations are safe, compliant, and effectively managed in line with Operator’s Licence and legal requirements
    • Drive full regulatory compliance across drivers, vehicles, and fleet operations, including tachograph management, driver hours, and transport legislation
    • Oversee fleet maintenance, servicing, inspections, and defect management to ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and operationally efficient
    • Lead, coach, and develop the Transport Team to deliver high performance, managing day-to-day issues, performance, and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Embed a strong health, safety, and compliance culture, proactively managing risks, incidents, and investigations, and implementing corrective actions
    • Deliver operational performance against cost, productivity, and service KPIs, identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
    • Optimise transport planning, including routing, scheduling, and driver utilisation to maximise efficiency and service delivery
    • Monitor, analyse, and report on operational performance, using data and stakeholder feedback to drive improvements and enhance customer service

    • Highly organised with strong planning and attention to detail
    • Committed to quality, compliance, and Health & Safety standards
    • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels
    • Flexible, adaptable, and willing to take on additional responsibilities
    • Strong background in fleet management and transport legal compliance, including Operator’s Licence 
    • Proven experience leading and developing teams within a fast-paced operational environment
    • Confident managing conduct, capability, and performance issues
    • Transport Manager CPC (essential) with sound knowledge of transport regulations and compliance
    • Relevant qualifications in logistics, transport, or business, with strong MS Office capability
    • Experience in cost control and operational efficiency
    • Desirable: Microlise / EPOD experience, HGV Class 2 licence, IOSH Managing Safely
